Patrons, Guests and Makers: What is in a name?

There has been some confusion recently about our selection of nomenclature for the different types of people who will be attending the Aethertopia event in Tampa this summer. Patrons and Guests are not the same thing. And we have no vendors. That word is from the French word “vendre”, to sell,  and therefore the denizens of Aethertopia simply won’t understand it.

Allow me to expound even further on the point, so that you can understand why we have made the choices we have made. And by “we”, I mean “I”.

The general public who pay for admission are considered Guests of the City. When you walk through that door, you will have no doubt that you are a treasured guest of our community.

However, it is through the patronage of our merchants that we can bring the entire Nomadic City to your home town. Hence, we refer to them as Patrons.

And the Guild districts are entirely open for wandering by any and all. Within those Guild districts you will find the Makers. They are responsible for bringing you their work, in defense of their Guild’s quest to be declared the Most Integral Element of Steampunk.

Above all else, this is intended to be an inspirational event for everyone who attends!

I hope this clears up any confusion I may have created. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you in July!

Most sincerely,

Lord Puddleton
